SILSDEN slipped down to ninth in the Premier Division of the North West Counties League after a narrow defeat on the road.

The Cobbydalers travelled to Ashton Athletic’s Brocstedes Park and went down 1-0, with the ignominy of the match winner going down as an own goal.

The home side were on the attack midway through the first half and the ball went in off a defender to give Ashton the lead.

Danny Forrest’s men battled hard but couldn’t find their way back into the game. That signals a fifth defeat in their last six games and the points lifted Ashton to tenth, immediately below Silsden with the gap between the clubs now down to one point.

There was more frustration for Steeton in Division One North as their game at Daisy Hill was postponed. The pitch at the Bolton based Lancashire side’s New Sirs ground was waterlogged.

It was a third consecutive Saturday off for the Chevrons who had home games in December against Ashton Town and Garstang both called off – for a waterlogged and frozen pitch respectively.
