STEETON is looking to recruit players for its reserves and Under-18s sides as they start to look towards next season.

Manager Roy Mason said: "It is vital for us as a club that we look to develop the best local talent and bring these players through our reserve team and ultimately into the first team."

With the first team squad containing nine players who started their careers with us at 16 years old, the club’s policy of bringing young players through is paying dividends.

Leading scorer, Andy Briggs started his career with the club aged 16, as did longest current serving player, Sam Rooke.

Mason added: "This season we have had seven players start in the first team who have been with us since the age of 16 years of age and in Aaron Hollindrake and Aaron Davis two players who were with us as juniors and have come back to the club after playing elsewhere.

"The emphasis on the reserve team going forward will be about developing players capable of making that step up."

The u18s team won their league last season and the club is looking to bring a few fresh faces into their ranks as well as of late they have struggled with numbers.

Ideally the target for us is players aged between 16-21 who want the challenge of improving themselves as individuals, but also have the ambition to push themselves to North West Counties level.
