Oxenhope 2

Church Fenton 5

OXENHOPE bowed out of the West Riding County Challenge Cup in the round of the last 16 in an entertaining game with Church Fenton from the York League's Premier Division.

The home side had the best of the first half with Lee Reilly, Scott Nelson and Tom Marshall all seeing attempts either saved by the visitor's keeper or narrowly missing the target.

So it was against the run of play that the visitor's grabbed the lead with virtually the last kick of the half with a break down the left and a cross that was fired in off the far post.

Oxenhope continued to press after the re-start and were rewarded with an early equaliser Mark Bentham winning the ball, playing it out to James Bailey who then put in a cross that was flicked on by Nelson for Reilly head home.

Five minutes later Church Fenton hit back with two quick strikes both defensive errors by the home side.

Oxenhope put themselves back in the tie on 70 minutes when a precision corner from Bailey was headed in powerfully by Reilly to make it 3-2.

Ten minutes later with the home side applying the pressure to find the equaliser they were caught out by a break-away goal and with the last kick of the game the visitors added a fifth.

This Saturday Oxenhope travel to Kippax in the league (2pm).

Oxenhope: Driver R, Bailey, Scott L, Scott D, Bentham, Makinson (Driver D), Quinlan, Jalil (White), Reilly, Nelson, Marshall (Williamson).

Meanwhile, Oxenhope Reserves went out of the County Trophy at the same stage when they were defeated by by Leeds St Mary's first team 4-0. This week they entertain Hunslet Reserves (2pm).
