THERE were mixed emotions for Bradford's Yorkshire Amateur League sides at the weekend, including a harsh cup exit.

In the Premier Division, Athletico earned a crucial victory that sees them rise to eighth, with 12 points from 13 matches.

They beat ninth-placed Stanningley at home by five goals to three, which means the visitors dropped a place to tenth and are precariously close to the relegation zone.

Stanningley gifted Athletico two goals in the first 20 minutes, but they struck back through a good finish by centre half Dale McCormack in the 28th.

It was 2-1 until the 43rd minute when Athletico went two ahead going into the break.

Stanningley equalised in the second half, thanks to a Tom Stewart penalty and a Dave Lowther run and finish.

But, Athletico showed their quality and added their winning goals in the 75th and 80th minutes.

The goals for home side came from Mohammed Qasim and Adeeb Jawad, who both bagged a brace, and Mohammed Raaj.

There was yet more dismay for bottom-side Wibsey, who shipped seven goals at home against third-placed Drighlington.

Idle were feeling the blues themselves, but this was due to a fifth-round cup exit.

The Bradford side travelled to Huddersfield YMCA in the County Challenge Trophy, but were down by two goals at the break.

Idle dug in and began to get a foothold in the match and it was all them in the last 20 minutes.

Jack Strudwick notched the goal to give the home side some hope with a first time finish that looped into the top corner.

Idle continued to press YMCA, forcing a number of corners and a goal-mouth scramble saw YMCA clear the ball off the line.

But it was too little, too late with the tie ending 2-1 in favour of YMCA who advanced into the next round of the competition.

Back in the league, it was a sorry display by Prospect in Division Three.

They lost 7-1 away to New Middleton, but it was always going to be a tough task against a side who had a 100 per cent record.

Man of the match Chris Ovington scored five of the home side's goals to bring his tally up to nine for the season.

The result still leaves Prospect at risk of relegation, with only one point separating them from 11th-placed Morley Town.
