THERE was a helpful serving of cup upsets in this week's local women's football.

Two Premier Division sides crashed out of the West Riding League Cup.

The league leaders from the Prem and First Division came up against each other in a clash of the titans, but it couldn't have been more one sided.

It was the lower division underdogs, Lower Hopton, who came through with a 7-0 away at Hepworth United who sit right at the top of the league's stack.

Hopton were helped by their prolific second top scorer, Dani Anthony, who bagged five for her side.

Ashlee Brack and Ashley Hinds got the other two goals.

In an even bigger shock, Third Division Farsley Junior First came from behind to knock out Yorkshire Amateur, who have serious title hopes in the Prem.

Farlsey, who were at home, beat the visitors 4-1, after being one down at the break, to advance to the next round.

In the League Shield, Premier Division Brighouse Athletic eased out their lower league opposition, Ilkley Town in a 4-1 win.

Alongside the cup games, there was league action across several of the divisions.

In the Second Division, Phoenix secured a good 5-1 result away to Garforth Rangers.

On target were Noreen Ali with a brace, top scorer Megan Medley, Sanah Razaq and Amina Ali.

Thackley Reserves lost 4-2 to joint leaders Ossett, while in the league above, Tyersal narrowly lost 1-0 at bottom-placed Leeds City.

It's only the second win the away side have got all season.

Elsewhere, a Charlotte Proud hat-trick saw Brighouse Town move up to third in the National Northern Division One, after a win at Norton.

Norton have a quick turnaround, as they play Leeds United at Thorp Arch tomorrow evening.

Strong Northern Premier side, Huddersfield Town, had an FA Cup tie away to Championship Charlton Athletic.

The game was 3-3 at the end of normal time and the two sides could only be separated by penalties, with underdogs Huddersfield scoring all five and saving one to go through to the Fifth Round.

They will play West Ham in that tie, next week.
