Steeton 2

Holker OB 1

STEETON grabbed their first win in Hallmark Security League Division One North since November 24 as they completed the double over Holker Old Boys.

The locals got off to an ideal start when Jack Richmond arrived late to sweep home and opener, Steeton nearly had a second when a great move from the right-hand side saw a Holker defender turn the ball over his bar under pressure from Ben Clarkson. However, they were not to be denied and, from the resulting corner, Sam Rooke powered home Toby Jeffrey’s delivery.

The visitors pulled a goal back just before half-time when John Paul Stanway slotted home after good work on their left-hand side.

They were almost level at the break when Rooke brought down their attacker who bore down on goal. However, Fletcher Paley did well and saved the resulting kick diving to his left.

Callum Meade went close to adding a third for the home side after the break and Steeton had to dig in deep as Holker struck the woodwork and had a goal disallowed for a foul on Paley.

Steeton are back in action on Saturday when they face AFC Liverpool at Cougar Park (kick-off 3pm).
