IN a story more appropriate for a fairytale or movie, Crossflatts Village have kept their treble hopes alive after making it to another cup final.

The side advanced to last stage of the Bradford Sunday Alliance Senior Cup for the second year running thanks to the heroics of not one, but two goalkeepers in the same match.

Village took on division rivals Station Hotel in the semis at Rawdon Meadows in a match of narrow margins.

Normally, the headlines are taken by outstanding outfield performances, but this was all about two men between the sticks for Crossflatts.

The defending Senior Cup holders were behind in the beginning.

Station's Lee Elam made no mistake in the first-half when he finished to make it 1-0.

But, before half-time Billy Bailey equalised for Flatts to send the side into the break with winds in their sails.

It was during the interval that the idea of bringing substitute goalie and spot-kick specialist Dan Thorpe onto the field, in the eventuality of penalties, was first mooted.

Flatts starting keeper Dominic Bennett was in inspired form and pulled off a host of excellent saves throughout the game.

But it was Bennett who voiced his concerns of a potential penalty shoot-out, with expert Thorpe touted as the replacement.

This one didn't end in disaster as it did for Chelsea's Maurizio Sarri, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero in February's Carabao Cup Final drama.

Thorpe managed to sweet talk his manager Les Cooper into bringing him on in place of Bennett with one minute to go of normal time as the shoot-out loomed.

The tactical switch paid dividends.

Station missed their first penalty and then the next eight players all converted theirs, allowing Dan Thorpe to step up to take the tenth and deciding spot-kick.

Thorpe confidently stroked the ball home to see his side advance to the final, much to the delight of the away fans.

The win keeps Village on course for a second consecutive treble.

The Bradford Sunday Alliance Premiership pacesetters are already through to the Keighley & District Sunday Cup Final and are three points clear at the top of league with a game in hand over second placed Westwood Park.

Village will hope to continue their good run on Sunday when they host Olympic FC in the league.

They will meet league rivals Oakenshaw FC, who beat Northern 2-1 in the other semi, in the final of the Senior Cup.
