TEN-MAN Steeton crashed to a midweek defeat at Carlisle City in the Hallmark Security League Division One North.

Roy Mason's side fell to an 88th-minute winner to suffer late heartbreak on Tuesday night.

The Chevrons fell behind in the 13th minute after a shot was blocked on the line by Steeton's Sam Rooke. But Ben Palmer was on hand to fire in the rebound.

The hosts doubled their lead five minutes later when Jordan Palmer found himself one-on-one before firing past Steeton goalkeeper George Tidswell.

Steeton showed good character when they grabbed a goal back a minute later via in-form Ben Clarkson's header.

On 22 minutes, Jack Richmond almost pulled the visitors level, but his shot was blocked.

But Steeton's comeback was secured two minutes later as Michael Armitage's effort was fired in for 2-2.

Carlisle came back again in a see-saw first-half as Robert McCartney after 32 minutes and the first period ended 3-2 to the hosts.

Steeton fired a 49th-minute equaliser as Sam Rooke's header made it game on in the second period.

But Steeton suffered a huge blow in the 68th minute when Tim Hird was sent off for a lunge.

Despite being down a man, Steeton rallied to set up a grandstand finish to this exciting contest.

Stevie Pearson saw his header cleared off the line with six minutes left.

There was heartbreak for Steeton with two minutes of normal time remaining as James Earl's volley beat Tidswell.
