THERE is a busy weekend ahead for teams in Yorkshire County events where both Broughton Road and Cross Roads feature in the quarter-finals of the Hutchinson and Yorkshire Cups.

Broughton Road play Denby Grange in the mixed team event at Hillcrest against a side that little is known about, while Cross Roads are on familiar ground against old rivals Brighouse from the Halifax League at Marsh United.

It is a tough call and they will have to perform better than their recent match in the Brotherton Cup last weekend.

Here they met Guiseley at Clayton and after a promising start spearheaded by Richard and Neil Hargreaves, they lost narrowly with only Les Foster recording another victory in a below-par effort.

The Skipton Veteran’s take a break from Inter-District games on Friday when they compete in the annual Hickson Team Trophy for Veterans hosted this season by the Barnsley area.

They begin this one-day event against Castleford at Dodworth Miners and in a straightforward knock-out hope to progress to the semis and the final itself at Barnsley BC. They reached the final last year and hope to maybe go a step further. It begins at 10am.

The Halifax Finals of the Wilkinson Sword event is on Sunday at Sowerby T & BC commencing at 1pm, with a top-class field where local hopes rest with Richard Hargreaves and Steve Peers.

In recent district games in the Federation of Bowling, there were wins for among others, Robbie Ellis, Mark Barker, Derek Seed, Chris Wilson and and Graeme Reay.
