AS their season draws to a close, a small team of City of Bradford Swimming Club’s swimmers travelled to Sunderland to compete in the City of Sunderland Summer Splash Meet held at Sunderland Aquatic Centre.

Guiseley's Ellen Winters took the plaudits when she claimed gold in the girls 16 years and over 50m and 100m backstroke.

She also took silver in the 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke and bronze in the 200m backstroke.

Thirteen-year-old Rebecca Dunn of Guiseley showed consistent form to take gold in the 200m individual medley and 50m freestyle and silver in the 50m butterfly.

Fifteen-year-old Fraser Buxton looked impressive in taking gold in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke and silver in the 50m freestyle

Sam Akers of Keighley was the City’s other gold medallist with a win in the boys 15 years and over 100m freestyle in time of 58.66.

Megan Richmond, also of Guiseley, swam a well-paced race to take silver in the girl’s 14 years 200m breaststroke and Josh Jones claimed two bronze places in the boy’s 15 years and over 200m individual medley and 50m backstroke events.

Other medallists were Callum Mawson, silver in the boys thirteen years 100m backstroke and Evelyn Gledhill who placed third in the girls' 10 years100m backstroke.

In total, City gained seven gold, six silver and four bronze medals along with a host of personal best times and new North East Region qualifying times.

All the swimmers train with Leisure Services Aquatic Competition Programme under the guidance of coaches Andy Pearce and Sarah Fisher.
