Steeton 2

Barnoldswick Town 3

BARNOLDSWICK Town were the first recipients of the Archie Airdrie Trophy, which raised £500 for the Airedale Hospital Oncology Department.

Visitors Town started the game brightly and they capitalised on a defensive error to take the lead through Joe Noblet.

Barlick doubled their lead, breaking quickly as Zak Dale fired home in Saturday's clash at Summerhill Lane.

Matty Keen in the Steeton goal made a couple of good saves to keep the score at 2-0 as Barnoldswick moved the ball around quickly.

Steeton switched formation in the second period and the introduction of Bailey Coates up front, with Ben Clarkson, saw them start to push to get themselves back in the game.

When Sam Rooke headed home from a corner it was game on.

Barlick soon restored their two-goal advantage when Dale finished a good move on the right.

Clarkson struck the foot of the post as the play swung from end to end and he then latched onto a long ball to set up a tense finish.

Rooke headed over with the last move of the game and it was Stewart and Janet Airdrie who presented James Croken with the trophy.

The match was held to celebrate the life of the club stalwart who died in December 2018. Archie's son Stewart is a former chairman of Barnoldswick and the two clubs have developed a close relationship in recent times.

Meanwhile, Steeton have announced a number of more re-signings to their playing squad.

Ben Clarkson, Elliott Scott, Freddie Maddocks and Jonah Smith have all returned, while Dan Pickles and goalkeeper Matty Keen have joined the Chevrons.
