TWO swimmers from the City of Bradford Swimming Club made a good impression at the open water swim series in the Lake District.
Sam Akers, from Keighley, and Gabriel Medd, from Bingley, competed in the first of four events taking place at Derwentwater near Keswick.
Sam, who had never swam in open water, finished a remarkable fifth out of 158 male swimmers - clocking up an impressive time of 23min 57secs over the one-mile course.
Gabriel, who had also never swam in an open water event, finished a respectable 28th with a time of 25:00 exactly.
The swimmers will now compete in three-monthly events at Ullswater, Coniston and Windermere in the rest of the series, finishing up in September.
