Airedale I 0

Leeds Adel III 0

THE first game of the hockey season had Airedale raring to make an impact in Yorkshire Division One.

Captain Claire Simons motivated the team and ensured that the home team were quick to attack.

Airedale looked the stronger side as they kept possession and created chances.

Leeds Adel made good efforts to counter, but goalkeeper Kate Perfect looked impenetrable with a series of saves.

A sharp rebound shot looked promising for Leeds Adel, but the quick reflexes of Claire Spiller crucially cleared the attempt.

The second half saw Georgia Ramshaw build on the impression that she had made in the first by making an exceptional run to take a shot which fell just wide of the target.

Further attempts came from Alex Fryer, Libby Marsh and Agnes Simons, but all were painfully denied.

As the final minutes ticked away, things looked uncomfortable for Airedale as they were put under enormous pressure from a succession of short corners that were awarded to Leeds Adel.

Perfect continued her run of tremendous saves and the Airedale defence never faltered, keeping a clean sheet and earning Airedale a well-deserved point to start off the season.
