BROUGHTON Road duly won the Yorkshire ABA’s Mixed team event for the Hutchinson Cup when they comfortably beat Ossett C and AC by more than 30 points.

The contest was held at the revised venue of Almondbury BC, Huddersfield, on a good surface and although they had only five winners out of 12, big early wins by Andy Uttley and Derek Seed gave them a good start, which was complimented by good scores later on by David Smith and Kevin Burnett to clinch a deserved success and much celebration afterwards.

In the Mixed team event for the Radley Cup earlier, Mythomroyd were well beaten by Cleckheaton Sports after a poor display.

Cross Roads represented the Hebden League as winners in the Yorkshire Parks Victory Cup and actually won their first game against Rufford Park A of the Aire-Wharfe League at Hove Edge WMC.

Both teams were below strength, especially the locals, but they were indebted to big wins by Mark Barker and Ryan Tiler to gain a victory.

The next match against the Bradford League winners Crossgates in the semi-finals was a step too far at Cleckheaton Moorend WMC.

The locals were well beaten despite wins again for Barker, Tiler and Stephen Peers, who won both his games with good efforts. Crossgates won the event, defeating Bradfield, of Sheffield, by just two points at Thornhill.

This week it is the turn of the Silsden Ladies in the Ladies Top Crown event which has been re-scheduled from Elland to Halifax BC, commencing at 10am.

There are six teams in the event played in two groups of three on a round-robin basis and the main threat will once again come from New Mill BC.

No draw details as yet but the locals will have to be on top form to win.
