Acomb II 6
Airedale II 2
AFTER the previous weekend’s 14-0 romp, Airedale Hockey Club men’s second team came down to earth with a bump with a 6-2 defeat at Acomb.
Short of a number of key players, the Keighley outfit gave a debut to Josh Carsdale, who caused constant trouble down the left flank.
However, Acomb scored the first blows, speeding into an early 2-0 advantage.
After clever interplay between the young midfield of Marsh, Carsdale and E Ashley, Hazlehurst capped off the move to pull a goal back.
Acomb responded with a third, taking advantage of the makeshift Airedale defence before Airedale’s Marsh made it 3-2 at half-time with a cool finish.
In the second half, Acomb came out stronger, pushing players upfield to constantly press and outnumber the Airedale defence, putting the game out of Airedale’s reach with two quick goals.
Airedale still pressed to gain some consolation, applying some sustained pressure on the Acomb net with man of the match J Ashley mopping up any Acomb counter attacks.
However, an impressive solo effort from the Acomb skipper capped off a fine second half Acomb performance.
Airedale Hockey Club's adult training sessions are held every Thursday between 7pm and 9pm at Beckfoot Oakbank School, Oakworth Road, Keighley, for anyone who would like to take up the sport.
