KIERAN Moran says he wants to help put Scotland on the map after helping them reach the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.

The Keighley Cougars ace was in the Bravehearts squad which qualified for the showpiece following an eight-try 42-24 win over Greece in their final qualifying match, played in London last Friday night.

Scotland picked up from where they left off in their 86-0 rout of Serbia in Glasgow last month.

Initially named in Scotland's 19-man squad, he played just under 30 minutes of the clash as a substitute but was sin-binned for a high tackle.

It also set up a weekend celebration as he marked his 23rd birthday the following day.

Scotland are the 12th country to book their place in the 16-team tournament. The draw will be made on November 27, two years out from the final. The tournament will be held in England between October 23, 2021 and November 27, 2021.

It will be the second World Cup for Moran who was named in Scotland's squad for the 2017 tournament in Australia but did not make an appearance, only in a warm-up game.

Loose forward/prop Moran said: "It's good. Greece were a tough opponent. They had a few players who play in League One and a few whom play in Australia.

"It was a big relief to win both games (against Serbia and Greece).

"We want to beat one of the top four teams in the world; England, New Zealand, Australia or Tonga.

"I have already experienced the World Cup in 2017. I just want to do it again. It was one of the best times of my life.

"Having the next one in the UK will make it a bit different.

"I had family that travelled up to Scotland to watch the Serbia game and watched the Greece one on TV.

"I was named the 18th man in a couple of the squads at the last World Cup, but I didn't quite play a competitive game last time out. That's my aim now."

Moran now hopes to take the confidence he has gained from his World Cup success into his domestic form for Cougars in 2020.

He added: "We have the European Championships for Scotland next October. I just want to have a good year with Keighley. I have a bit of time off now.

"We've made some really good signings. You look through the squad and you think who is going to miss out. It will be a battle for everyone.

"The goal for us is to try to get promotion next year."
