STEETON grabbed a 90th-minute leveller to take a 1-1 draw from high-flying Ashton Town in North West Counties League Division One North.

Toby Jeffrey firing home from the edge of the box was no more than Steeton deserved after creating a host of first half chances that somehow saw them go into the half-time break goalless.

Kayle Price did well twice to get his shot away after neatly turning his man but dragged his efforts narrowly wide. Jeffrey had a shot cleared off the line just before the interval as well.

The second period saw Ashton come more into the game and it was they who took the lead in the 61st minute when Chad Whyte raced through and rounded Dan Thorpe before finishing from a tight angle.

Jerry White struck an effort at the keeper and Tyler Marsh's free-kick was well held by the home keeper, while at the other end the home side went close on a couple of occasions on Tuesday night.

With 90 minutes on the clock Jeffrey picked up the ball on the right-hand side of the box and unleashed an effort that gave Chris Cheetham in the Ashton goal no chance.

It almost got better for Steeton when Price's strike from 30 yards in injury time was well held by Cheetham.

Manager Roy Mason said: "I thought we played better than we did on Saturday when we beat Golcar.

"We had pace and tenacity all night. Our wide players pressed high up the pitch and made it uncomfortable for their full-backs.

"We showed great character to keep going right until the end and that's two games on the bounce that we have managed to grind a result out.

"We are a young team with a few new faces, but we are also improving both on and off the ball and that is encouraging."

Steeton are back in action this Saturday when the face Chadderton at Cougar Park (3pm kick-off).

Meanwhile, Silsden advanced to the fourth round of the Northern Counties East League Cup following a 3-2 win at Bridlington Town.

Matthias Britton (7), Christopher Wademan (9) and Khurram Shazad (54) guided the Cobbydalers to victory at the Neil Hudgell Solicitors Stadium on Tuesday night.

Bridlington's goals came courtesy of Mark Hutchinson (4) and Joseph Danby (42).
