BRADFORD Motor Club was in top gear on New Year’s Day and ran their first club championship trial at scenic Deer Park, high above Bingley.

The long green meadow a direct contrast to the tree-shrouded Howden Wood at Silsden where Boxing Day trial was staged.

There were 61 competitors plus a full complement of observers with ten sections tested all classes.

Sam Boocock won championship route riding his Sherco from expert James Duxbury and Phil Hancock while Alice Minta ran off with Youth Class A.

Neil Savage surfaced from Barnsley to take Clubman A from course plotter Anthony Ayrton of Barnoldswick, who was giving his works replica Montesa 4rt an airing.

Andy Walters cleaned 30 sections to grab Clubman A where Class C boy Will Sagar claimed an amazing fourth place and Lucy Ayrton won her first Class A youth laurels.

* The Ilkley Motor Club kick started the trials season on Sunday at Dob Park, Otley, where almost 100 competitors from all over the British Isles contested the annual New Year trial.

British class champions, European and British youth champions, a Scott Trial winner and many leading Yorkshire names enjoyed a 'new look' trial.

Nick Pullan and Adrian Tate worked hard to plot 18 sections, many of which were longer than usual.

The prime sections only extracted two penalties from winner Richard Sadler of Leyburn.

Ironically, they were in the dry parts of Brown’s Wood rather than the quagmire at the bottom of Dob Park.

The Green course, Clubman A and B, started under the trees at the top of Brown's Wood where very long and steep climbs got the show on the road.

The next three sections, the top path and bottom road, require the attributes of a mountain climber to flag and mark out.

The ninth and tenth sections navigated the slippery stream bed at the extreme west end of the wood.

The expert contenders plus seven top level youths attacked Dob where the penultimate section was cleaned on both visits by Sadler.
