SILSDEN Whitestar managed to get their Craven League Premier Division game on at Marley against Carleton Sports Club, and it proved worthwhile, as star striker Sam Stansfield (below, left) netted four goals in a 7-1 win.

Whitestar, who led 4-1 at half-time on the artificial pitch, cruised further clear after the break. Casey Dowthwaite, Josh McNulty and substitute Aaron Vaughan were all on the scoresheet alongside Stansfield.

Kieron Hall scored a consolation for Carleton, who are second from bottom in the division.

Silsden remain in fourth place. They are nine points behind leaders Grassington United but with four games in hand on them.

And Grassington’s game with Trawden Celtic Juniors was the only other Craven League fixture to go ahead at the weekend.

They won 4-2 in an exciting top of the table clash, thanks to a pair of braces.

Substitute Luke Howson came off the bench after the break to score two goals, adding to Reece Fowler’s double, as United secured a 4-2 victory on the 3G pitch at Sandylands in Skipton.

Mark Threlfall was on target with a brace for Trawden, who are five points behind Grassington but have three games in hand on the leaders.

It was the second successive week that Grassington had played at Sandylands, as they continue to get games in while others fall foul of the wet weather.
