IT was one of the few sports still allowed to continue in the UK at the moment given the coronavirus pandemic, and Branshaw Golf Club played host to a feast of action over the weekend.

The Saturday Thrash was a close run thing, with three pairs tied for second and one team just scraping victory in D. O'Driscoll and A. Leeming.

Meanwhile, the Winter League Individual Stableford the following day saw a good win for S. Summerskill.

The Saturday thrash and the 4BBB stableford were due to be held this weekend, but England Golf issued a statement on coronavirus last night.

In it, they confirmed that golf clubs, courses and facilities within them must shut immediately, in light of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's address to the nation about the closure of all non-essential businesses.

The clubhouse and kitchen were already closed at Branshaw and they, along with the golf club, will now reopen in line with government advice.

Unsurprising, the AGM scheduled for April 1 has been cancelled until further notice.
