IN the women's football action over the weekend, Bradford (Park Avenue) and Yorkshire Amateur fought out a 3-3 draw at Hollingwood Lane.
Only five minutes had elapsed before Yorkshire Amateur’s Yasmin Ali was on the score-sheet, but Bradford soon replied when Vic Cullen headed in from a corner.
A superb finish from Kirsty Russell-Holt gave Avenue a 2-1 lead going into the second half.
The score could have been double figures for both teams without excellent performances from the goalkeepers, Avenue’s Annie Roberts and Amateur’s Cerys Bevan.
A Leonie Hughes brace gave visiting Amateur the advantage going into the last few minutes.
However, a late Melandri Nyandoro strike meant honours were even at the end of an entertaining contest.
Ilkley Town and Silsden drew 2-2 at Ben Rhydding. Bethany Hirst hit two cracking goals to put Ilkley 2-1 up at half-time, with Silsden’s Megan Robson-Owens also on target.
The visitors had an improved second half, as Hannah Spencer equalised to share the spoils.
Queensbury Celtic U18s drew 4-4 with Bradford City U16s in an exciting end-to-end game, with great goals from both teams. Celtic’s scorers were Katie Waters, skipper Jess Maurice with two, and Elisha Waters direct from a corner.
Bradford City Women were also in action at Huddersfield Town.
The Terriers were 4-0 up at the break, Laura Elford completing her hat-trick with a penalty, with the Bantams going on to lose 6-0.
Elsewhere, Skipton Town lost 2-1 to Dewsbury Rangers at Sandylands.
Brighouse Sports’ Abbie Robyn’s stand-out performance was the highlight of their 4-0 win at Ossett United Reserves.
Sarah Hemingway and Alice Holleworth were on target in the first half, with a Lyndsey Hopton brace completing the scoring.
Finally, Farsley Celtic Women’s new signing Caitlin Bates scored four in a routine 12-0 win at Amaranth, in a game that also featured hat-tricks from Jade Brindle and player of the match Shirley Murphy.
