BARNOLDSWICK Town recovered from a 4-0 hammering by Newton Aycliffe in the Buildbase FA Vase, to got one up on neighbours Steeton in the two sides latest friendly.

Connor Phelan, Liam Jarvie (2) and Adam Burnicle were all on target as two goals either side of half time condemned Town to an early exit.

Endrit Shehu would have been pleased with his team's response though. A comfortable 2-1 victory over the Chevrons followed in mid-week.

Barlick’s first half pressure took its toll when their striker managed to dink over the on-rushing Fletcher Paley to give the hosts the lead.

Shortly after, Kayle Price came close to finding the back of the net from Toby Jeffrey’s right-wing cross, but he couldn’t keep his header down and it sailed over the bar.

Price again had a chance to send the teams into the break all square but, after some neat build-up play, his angled shot found the side netting.

Jeffrey though he had halved the deficit with his first-time shot, only for it to be spectacularly saved.

After the hour, Barnoldswick doubled their lead against the run of play.

Tyler Marsh’s clearing header fell short and was latched on to by the Zach Dale lurking on the edge of the box. The experienced Barlick midfielder coolly curled the ball into the top corner.

James Wolfenden almost pulled a goal back for the Chevrons, narrowly failing to get on the end of Andy Briggs cross to turn the ball home.

Substitute Jake Townsend scored a consolation late on for the visitors. He received the ball on the left wing before cutting into the box and unleashing an unstoppable shot which found the top corner.

Steeton will look to get one more friendly in ahead of the start of their league season on October 3 when they face Bury FC away.

Barnoldswick face a mighty challenge against National League North team Farsley Celtic in their final pre-season match.
