WITH Bradford City’s Boxing Day match against League Two local rivals Harrogate Town postponed due to Covid-19 cases, many football fans will be left in search of their festive football fix.

It’s City’s second postponement due to Covid in two games with players in isolation following the latest round of testing.

The game would have been the Bantams’ first home game on Boxing Day in four seasons, and has left them counting the cost of missing out on a six figure cash boost by the game.

It also means many football fans in the district are also being left without a game to attend in person on December 26.

But there are plenty of games going on around the district on Boxing Day and on the following bank holidays up and down the non-league pyramid.

Those in need of a football fix can head along to cheer on their nearest semi-pro side, and while City are missing out on a cash boost, heading along to watch a local non-league game will help keep grassroots team alive – and also be a fun, stress-free day out away from the woes and of Valley Parade.

There are several games going on across the district between December 26 and 28, and if you’re wondering which to head to, we’ve got you covered below:

December 26, Boxing Day

  • Bradford (Park Avenue) vs York City, 3pm kick off at Horsfall Stadium in the National League North. Struggling Avenue face the mid-table Minstermen hoping to get some points on the board to get clear of the relegation zone.
  • Farsley Celtic vs Guiseley, 3pm @ The Citadel, Farsley, National League North. A huge game between local rivals towards the bottom of the table, both teams needing points to get clear of the drop zone.

December 27, Bank Holiday Monday

  • Brighouse Town vs Liversedge, 3pm @ St Giles Road in the Northern Premier League Division One East. High-flying unbeaten league leaders Liversedge will be aiming to extend their record and keep top spot when they travel to eighth-placed Brighouse, who themselves are looking for a third win in a row.
  • Steeton vs Bury AFC, 3pm @ Marley Stadium in the North West Counties League First Division North. Mid-table Steeton welcome Bury, hoping to peg back the high-flying phoenix club and take the points to move closer to the play-off spots.

December 28, Bank Holiday Tuesday

  • Guiseley vs Bradford (Park Avenue), 3pm @ Nethermoor Park. Another local derby for Guiseley against a fellow bottom of the table dweller. Both teams need the points.
  • Albion Sports vs Eccleshill United, 3pm @ Throstle Nest, Farsley, Northern Counties East League Premier. Local rivals clash with second-placed United looking to get one over on third-from-bottom Albion.
  • Silsden AFC vs Knaresborough Town, 3pm @ The Office Interiors Stadium, NCEL Premier. A mid-table clash here, a win could help start a play-off charge for the home side.
  • Ilkley Town vs South Liverpool, 3pm @ MPM Stadium, North West Counties First Division North. Ilkley need a win to try and move clear of the drop zone.

If you fancy a change in sport, Bradford Bulls are also in action on Boxing Day, taking on Halifax Panthers at 12.30pm at Odsal Stadium.
