SILSDEN ended the year in style yesterday, with a sensational 8-1 home win in the NCEL Premier Division over Knaresborough Town.

Khurram Shazad and Jack Normanton both hit hat-tricks for the Cobbydalers, the latter making it three trebles in a row, as Danny Forrest’s side recorded their biggest win of the season.

Knaresborough were only three points behind Silsden at kick-off, and they made a bright start, when Ewan Gregson gave them the lead after only nine minutes.

But two goals in three minutes, courtesy of Shazad and Jos Bradshaw, put the Cobbydalers in front midway through the first half, and from there they never looked back.

Shazad had completed his hat-trick before the interval, as Knaresborough faced an uphill battle heading into the second half.

Things got worse for them when the in-form Normanton made it five on 63 minutes and it was soon 6-1, as newly-signed attacking midfielder Finn Donovan, who joined from Albion Sports last week, grabbed his first goal for the club.

Normanton put the finishing touches on the win, completing his hat-trick with two goals in the final 10 minutes.

The victory moves Silsden up to 12th, while Knaresborough stay 16th.
