STEETON have had a successful season on the pitch, achieving their highest ever finish in the Non-League Pyramid by coming 12th in the North West Counties League First Division North.

They netted a mammoth 78 goals along the way, more even than second-placed Holker Old Boys, and in the end, finished well clear of the drop.

But manager Roy Mason has always insisted that they are a collective at Steeton, with plenty of people to thank beyond the first team and coaches.

And that is perhaps no better epitomised than club president Albert Bates.

He was presented with an commemorative plaque at their awards night last Friday, after racking up an incredible 60 years of service at the club.

That means he joined around the time of the club's move from the Keighley and District League to the Craven League and later the West Riding County Amateur League.

He has also seen them go through the move from The Oaks to Summerhill Lane, with the latter where the plaque will reside, despite Steeton's recent move to Marley.

After years of dedication to the amateur club, Bates would have been one of the most delighted men around after Steeton finally secured a move into the semi-pro ranks of the North West Counties League back in 2018.

Congratulations to Albert for reaching this 60th milestone!
