THE West Riding County League completed their league games last Sunday, as three of our teams were on the road.

Silsden played their last County Premier match at Lower Hopton.

The week before, Hopton had looked to have been in with a chance of runners-up spot in the League, after an Abi Housecroft penalty put them in front against Yorkshire Amateur. But an own goal meant that maximum points were unable to be awarded, and it’s Leeds Medics and Dentists who take second place. However, Hopton are through to the delayed League Cup final, after beating Yorkshire Amateur in last month’s semi-final 6–1.

Silsden’s Awards Night, held recently in the Clubhouse, saw the following players given prizes: Manager's Player – Rebecca Seward, Player's Player – Becca Brown, and Away Manager's Match Point – Poppy Best.

Hopton were 7–0 up at half-time, but Silsden battled to the end, only allowing one further goal in a good second half as the game finished 8–0.

Thackley were at champions-elect Yorkshire Amateur.

Ammas’ Tanya Fozzard scored two, before Thackley responded on the half-hour mark, with a well-taken goal from distance. In injury time, Michelle Walsh marked her last-ever game of football by scoring another for Amateurs to make it 3–1 at the break.

Midfielder Walsh has completed 20 years in English football, and has represented her native Ireland at all ages, including one game against the USA played in front of 20,000.

After the break, Becky Kendell hit an unstoppable volley to put Ammas further in front, culminating in a 7–1 win over Thackley.

Yorkshire Amateur Manager Colin Sherman also made his farewell, after 20 years of coaching. Sherman is the longest-serving manager in the County Premier with 12 years under his belt.

Thackley’s manager James Greaves and assistant manager Dave Bray have both stepped down due to personal commitments. They took over last summer, and have overseen the Dennygirls’ best-ever FA Cup run, an affiliation with Bradford City u18s, and have ensured County Premier status for next season.

Field Ladies were away to Republica Internationale, in a dual County Second fixture.

Fields’ super-striker Megan Schofield opened up the score-line with a great finish in the bottom corner. Republica stepped up their game creating their own chances, hitting both the cross-bar and the post. Field regained their composure, and just before the end of the first game Anna Mitchell headed home for a 2–0 win.

The all-female management team of Jess Mallison and Julia Hogan have led Field Ladies since formation, and after joining the League in February have overseen the side play two games every week, to rise from bottom of the division up to third in County Second.

With third place secured, the second game of the day was played with a more relaxed attitude.

Sarah Binns smashed a free kick into the net, then Tara Kirby put away two to make it 3–0.

Hope Nicol had her initial shot saved by the goalkeeper, but followed up on the rebound. Binns hit the far top corner directly from a corner. Megan Howell stepped up with one of her super throw-ins to Schofield, who slotted it past the goalkeeper in a 1v1. Schofield followed up on a spilt ball to bag her second of the game and third of the day to end the game at 7–0.
