KEIGHLEY Cougars and Taylor Prell have mutually agreed to release the player from the remainder of his contract with the club.

Prell, who has been with the Cougars for the past three years, departs Cougar Park following discussions with head of rugby Andrew Henderson.

Speaking of the agreement, Henderson said: “It’s disappointing to see Taylor move on, but it was the right decision for both parties.

“There is no questioning Taylor’s talent and ability as a rugby league player.

“But unfortunately, his work and other commitments were affecting his chance to train and push for a genuine place in the team.

“Taylor leaves on good terms, we wish him all the best with his future and hope he stays in rugby league.”

One of the first signings made by the club in 2019 following the takeover by the O’Neill family, Prell wasted little time introducing himself to the Cougars faithful.

After a breath-taking try for the reserves side against Bradford Bulls in a game used to gain match fitness, he backed that up with a memorable effort on his first-team debut against Doncaster on Good Friday at Cougar Park.

Prell continued to steal the limelight with his scintillating try-scoring exploits, grabbing another sensational four-pointer for the highlight reel against the North Wales Crusaders later that season.

With the 2020 season cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he made the transition from the wing inside to centre ahead of the 2021 campaign.

Despite a change in position, Prell picked up where he left off from before the pandemic hit with 10 tries in 18 appearances.

However, the 2022 season has been a stop-start affair for the versatile back and following discussions between the player and the club, he has now departed Keighley.
