BRADFORD boxer Harris Akbar bowed out at the quarter-final stage of the Commonwealth Games, when a win would have guaranteed him at least a bronze medal.
Reigning European champion Akbar had high hopes of winning gold in Birmingham, and was one of the favourites for the light middleweight title.
But after breezing past Ghanaian opponent Jessie Lartey in the last-16 on Tuesday, he was given a tricky draw against Northern Irishman Aidan Walsh, who won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics last year.
And after a gripping bout yesterday, Akbar was deemed to have lost by split decision, with the judges scoring the fight 3-2 in Walsh's favour.
Keighley netballer Nat Metcalf is still competing at the Games though for England, with the wing-attack preparing for a semi-final against Australia today.
