BRADFORD (Park Avenue) made their return to pre-season action last night with a 1-1 draw at fellow Bradford side Campion.

With Avenue fielding eight trialists and a different team in each half, they were always unlikely to find the rhythm to trounce their hosts, and so it proved in an absorbing clash.

Aidan Kirby gave the Red and Blacks the lead with a penalty on the half hour mark, as Campion went into the break in front.

But on 52 minutes, right-back Jordan Windass, son of Bantams legend Dean, fired Avenue level when he cracked home a low right-footed effort into the bottom corner after being fed by the impressive Isaac Marriott.

Avenue winger Brad Dockerty was denied by a great save soon after, but teenage keeper Jacob Fawcett ensured Avenue didn't lose their pre-season opener with a superb stop five minutes from time.

There was a dramatic friendly at Steeton, as they beat Thackley 2-1.

Full-back Elliott Scott opened the scoring with a 25-yard screamer early on, before a real slice of bad luck befell the hosts at Marley.

Defender Alistair Morgan, in performing some last-ditch defending, collided with trialist goalkeeper Stuart Cross, with the latter suffering facial fractures as a result.

That meant midfielder McKenzie Borek had to mind the net for the rest of the half, before reserves keeper Joe Mash came on after the break, having been called upon as quickly as possible.

Borek almost kept Thackley out, but he could not stop a deflected Ben Grech-Brooksbank effort from bringing the Dennyboys level in the ninth minute of added time at the end of the first half.

But it was Steeton who won it with a goal on the hour mark, as Kayle Price's cross was turned into his own net by a Thackley player.

Elsewhere, Silsden were well beaten by an increasingly impressive Ilkley Town, whose move from grassroots to non-league football is looking wiser by the game.

It was 0-0 at the break, but visitors Ilkley ran riot in the second half, as goals from Matthew Swift, George Gomersall and Kevin Gonzalez saw them run out 3-0 winners.

Liversedge showed they mean business by crushing Emley 6-0 in their pre-season opener.
