In-form Jay Bird bagged a first-half brace as National League leaders Boreham Wood maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-1 home win over 10-man Kidderminster.
The on-loan Salford striker opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a fine chip into the far corner and added a second seven minutes later with a low drive from the edge of the box – taking his tally to five goals in six appearances.
A stunning near-post save from Harriers goalkeeper Jack Wint denied Bird a first-half hat-trick before the visitors reduced the deficit 10 minutes after the break, Lewis Walker beating keeper Luca Gunter to the ball and slotting his seventh of the campaign into an empty net.
Wint saved Zak Brunt’s penalty, after Richard Faakye was sent off, 19 minutes from time but three minutes later Ben Whitfield’s looping header – his fifth goal in four games since joining from Barrow – wrapped up the points.
