ON A day when the new high-tackle law was a topic of conversation, Wibsey started their Yorkshire Division Four North West campaign with an emphatic 57-0 home win over Halifax.
Fly half Andy Robinson was sin-binned for hands in the ruck, but Scott Smith, Kyle Carter and Marcus Grimes all had ten-minute rests for high tackles, as did one Halifax player.
Wibsey, fielding new boys in Jordan Payton, Elliot Cousins, Nathan Marchant and Harris Craven-Moore and giving second debuts for John Bradbury, Bruce Mpofu and Carl Walker, were too good for young opponents.
First-half tries came for Mpofu, Walker, Luke Wilson and Cousins, with Robinson, Carter, Mpofu and skipper Mark Darragh crossing in the second half, with Robinson adding a penalty and five conversions and backs man-of-the-match Payton two conversions. Wilson was the forwards’ man of the match.
