DIVISION Two champions Cross Hills Ladies completed their undefeated season in the Bradford and District Tennis League last Sunday.

A draw with Bowling was their sixth of the season, combining with eight wins to see them finish top of the table by a healthy nine points.

But the feat achieved was by no means easy, with all 14 matches played being toughly contested with plenty of long, hard-fought rallies involved.

The title was won thanks to the strength of the team and its depth of good players.

Diane Frost, Jan Abberton, Helen Kempster, Carol Bootham and Charlie Scott turned out the most frequently from the squad – the latter being the top-ranked player in the league, having won 13 of her 14 rubbers this season.

Scott displayed a wide range of very good strokes to get the top, showing great anticipation and consistency all year round.

Frost, a patient player with consistent accuracy, ranked fifth after 17 wins from 20, while Abberton also cracked the top ten for her efforts – impressing from the back and covering the court very well.

Gill Berry, Tessa Mounsey, Gilly Milnes and Christine Glenn also contributed to the unbeaten season, albeit without featuring as much as the five mentioned.

The team will look forward to playing Division One tennis next year, hoping to keep their team spirit going in what looks a difficult league.
