DOUGIE Lampkin has fired a warning shot towards his Scott Trial rivals by winning last Sunday's Ripon Motor Club's Derek Lickers Memorial Trial, which attracted 80 competitors.

The 14-section course, set by Mark Langstaff and Peter Fleetham on the upper reaches of Nidderdale venue Kingstone Farm, high above Fellbeck, was already tough but was made more difficult by the deluge which only abated on Saturday afternoon.

However, the sun broke through on Sunday, and the majority of the Championship Class contenders, including Silsden's multi-world and British champion, who was preparing for the 'Scott' at Richmond, rode the sections clean.

John, the other Lampkin adult, stormed the Clubman A route on his Fantic to give him confidence before he heads for Spain alongside Glen Scholey for an old-timers' trial.

Neil Gaunt was runner-up in the Clubman A on his crisp-sounding Beta, beating Otley's Joe Bradley.

Bradford novice Kieran Child was an impressive sixth on his Beta over the testing Championship Course amid seven national or Centre-winning experts.

The third Lampkin competing, Alfie, was an eye-catching second behind the experienced Henry Stephenson on the Clubman B route,

Stephenson finished a mark behind Falcon's Ian Haigh in eighth place.

Phillip Hammond won the class from Paul Sadler.
