ANOTHER Saturday, another key relegation match.

Following on from Wharfedale v Sheffield (January 20), Bradford & Bingley v Huddersfield YMCA (February 3), Baildon v Knottingley (February 17), Cleckheaton v Bees (February 24) and Bradford Salem v Wheatley Hills (last Saturday) comes BRADFORD & BINGLEY v Penrith tomorrow.

Only eight points separate the bottom six, and two of them meet tomorrow at Wagon Lane (1pm), with Percy Park, at the bottom with 33 points, facing the Bees, fifth from bottom with 39.

“We aren’t turning this into an epoch-defining game,” admitted Bradford & Bingley’s secretary Nick Patterson, “but four of our last five matches are at home. Tomorrow apart, we are against teams who are currently in the top six.

“However, other teams have tough run-ins and all we can do is get as many points as we can and see if teams can catch us. I reckon 50 points would see us safe.”

As usual, selection will be a relatively late affair for the Bees, but they are likely to be missing three-quarter Dennis Tuffour. Hopefully, however, they will have experienced prop Roger Raper back, as well as a regular second row. CLECKHEATON hope to finally play in their pink Breast Cancer kit at home to West Hartlepool.

BRADFORD SALEM’S chief reaction to last weekend’s 22-16 home win over Wheatley Hills was relief.

It put them six points above the drop line in Yorkshire Division One, although tomorrow’s hosts North Ribblesdale are five points behind with a game in hand.

“We are still very vulnerable,” admitted Salem’s rugby chairman Neil Klenk.

The visitors are without Harry Hall, Ali Veitch and Max Trueman, and may also be missing John Bradbury, but it is hoped that Danny Belcher can return.
