TWO people were taken to hospital – one suffering from serious injuries – following a crash involving a bus and a car in Keighley late last night.

The accident happened in Skipton Road, Utley, at around midnight.

A BMW was involved in a collision with a double-decker bus. It wasn't carrying any passengers.

Police, firefighters and the ambulance service attended and the section of main road close to the Green Head Road junction remains closed this morning. Police investigators are still at the scene.

Firefighters from Keighley and Bingley attended and had to free the BMW driver, who was trapped in his vehicle. He was the sole occupant of the car.

"Because of the extent of the damage to the vehicle extricating him was quite involved and took about an hour," said watch manager Ahsan Ali, of Keighley Fire Station.

The man was taken by ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary. His injuries were described as serious.

The bus driver was badly shaken and went to Airedale Hospital.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service sent two ambulance crews, a clinical supervisor and two hazardous area response team vehicles to the scene.
