WE want the keys back to our town. May I list a few of the disasters achieved while Keighley has been part of Bradford?

1) Buildings on East Parade pulled down but nothing put back in their place.

2) A new shopping centre was promised, and we were also promised a new one-way system, but nothing has happened.

3) The four-lane bypass on Hard Ings – we can’t have it because there’s no money.

4) The magic three lanes in Skipton Road into Keighley that not a lot of people use.

5) I have never seen the roads in and around Keighley in such a bad state of repair as they are now. There are three or four holes outside my home that I have reported many times. They have been repaired badly, so they are still there. Surprise, surprise – another bodge job.

6) We pay for our bins to be emptied once a week, but now they say they will do it every two weeks. Do we get any money back? No we still have to pay the same price. What a rip off.

7) We used to have a main post office. Now it’s in WHSmith.

8) We have lost our court rooms to Bradford now, so if you’re naughty you have to go to Bradford or Skipton.

9) We are losing Marks and Spencer next, and if you take a good look round our town you see a lot of shops shutting.

10) And now we come to the recent snow. Our roads were neglected for most of the day until Bradford had the good idea of sending the grit wagons out. But when I went to Bradford I saw they were using pavement snow ploughs. I don’t think I have seen one of these fantastic machines on our own housing estate. Is that because we are in Bradford but in the wrong part of Bradford? We used to have grit put on our pavements but not anymore.
