SILSDEN Amnesty Group would like to thank all those people who contributed to making its recent ceilidh such a successful and happy event.

First of all the Phoenix Ceilidh Band, with its lively music and dance caller who made sure we all knew what we were doing. From 7pm to 10.30pm we danced the night away, with young and older joining in enthusiastically together.

Then there is the venue; Silsden Town Hall is an ideal location for an event such as this – a dance floor designed for the purpose, comfortable seating, lighting as required and importantly, a bar. The Friends of Silsden Town Hall have worked very hard to create a venue which offers facilities of such a high standard. Volunteers were also extremely helpful in setting out the room as we requested. So, if you are wanting to organise a special event, look no further than the town hall.

Also thank you to Azeem's restaurant and Brooks DIY, both in Keighley, who together with Whittakers in Silsden gave valuable prizes for our raffle. Members of Wharfedale Amnesty also helped immensely selling tickets and on the night.

Silsden Amnesty Group meets on the second Monday of each month in the Methodist Church, 2pm to 4pm, and supports the work of Amnesty International in fighting injustices across the world. We campaigned recently for the release of Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe and held vigils highlighting her plight. It took six years until she was finally released. But unfortunately Morad Tahbaz, another British Iranian, whose release was promised on the same day, was returned to prison. You will find out more about him and how you can help at the coffee morning Silsden Amnesty is holding in the Methodist Church on Saturday, February 25, between 9.30am and noon.
