REGARDING the planned Steeton-Silsden footbridge over the Aire Valley trunk road, having read last week’s Keighley News I am bewildered by the “crossfire“ of excuses from all departments.
Everyone blames each other – a lack of resources, lack of building/planning details, lack of Government funds, lack of Bradford Council action, different prime ministers, etc, etc. The list goes on and on.
Meanwhile, the cost of the proposed construction has increased by millions of pounds.
Way back in March, 2019, I wrote to the Keighley News regarding our good old Bradford Council spending over £3.7m on some feasibility studies.
In 2022 it was stated that another set of studies had been called for, obviously at further expense.
Who did these studies and what was the outcome?
Such questions should be asked of, and more importantly answered honestly by, an independent inquiry team.
The picture of the intended bridge shows cars and lorries on the road. It should probably show vehicles more akin to space age travel!
