Comedy, costumes, ceilidh, Chris McCarthy and a Coronation Street actress are among highlights of this year's Haworth Festival.

The week-long festival will feature a wide range of music from artists including Emily Sargent, Foxes Faux, Do Miss America and Black Horse Fairy.

Outdoors there will be an art trail, art teepee, Mad Hatter's Tea Party, and a live broadcast from top Withens broadcast over the Internet.

There will also be film, literature, stage performance, a brass band, open-mic events and a touch of Bronte during the June 28 to July 8 festival.

This year's festival began as an alternative to the established Haworth Festival of Music and Arts but over the months some of the organisers came together.

The result is a packed programme of at least 20 events based around the venues like the Cobbles and Clay Cafe, West Lane Baptist Church and Bronte Schoolrooms.

The festival kicks off on June 28 with a comedy night at Parkside social club featuring Leeds stand-up comic Silky with local lad Loz Whitaker. The next evening features a screening of movie The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, in which English pensioners retire to an Indian hotel, at the West Lane Baptist Church.

Bronteland Livestream will broadcast short performances on June 30 from windswept Top Withens, believed to be the site of Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.

The same day will see an outdoor trail around Haworth with art from local people, businesses, schools, churches and clubs.

Ferndean Manor will provide a family fun day on June 30 at the Bronte Schoolrooms with face painting, origami, recycled sound workshop, live music, art tee pee, and an evening ceilidh.

Dance On is a stage presentation about the life and music of 1960s icon Kathy Kirby, performed on June 30 and July 7 at West Lane Baptist Church.

Local singers, comedians, musicians, poets and storytellers can join in the Monday Medicine acoustic open session at the Parkside Social Club Club on July 2, or the open-mic session at Cobbles in Clay on July 4.

Branwell and Dylan Poems and Prose will feature a performance by Casualty and Coronation Street actress Angela Crow, on July 4 at the Cobbles and Clay.

Victoria Hislop, who wrote best-selling novels The Island and The Return, will speak about her work at West Lane Baptist Church on July 5.

The Groovy Happening presents a music festival with "lots of fun and goodness" from Foxes Faux, Steve Doolan, the Rose Bay Willow Band and Do Miss America, at the Backside Social Club on July 7.

Children can dress up as their favourite storybook character for picnic and storytelling at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party in Haworth Park on July 7(2.30pm-5.30pm).

Other events: music from Emily Sargent Trio, Cobbles and Clay, June 30; art and music evening at Hall Green Baptist Chapel, July 2; Haworth Acting Academy presents Surviving Shakespeare, West Lane Baptist Church, 6; Manorlands garden party, Oxenhope, 8; blues cafe, Cobbles and Clay, 8.

Running every day will be an exhibition costumes from last year's Jane Eyre movie at the Bronte Parsonage Museum, and a retrospective exhibition by Haworth artist Chris McCarthy, at the visitor Centre on Main Street.
