A fiery end is in store for one of the characters in a thought-provoking new production at Keighley Playhouse.

Gone Up In Smoke, which is staged next week, is a thriller written by Georgina Reed and set on Bonfire night.

Rod Lester, an ambitious and charismatic teacher, is about to hold its annual bonfire party as the play begins.

The unexpected arrival of a mysterious stranger interrupts the preparations, and the lives of Rod and his wife, Marian, are changed forever.

Geoff Whitley, the director, said: “Gone Up In Smoke is a modern murder mystery set on Guy Fawkes’ night.

Rod and Marian prepare the firework display for a prestigious girls’ school. They are visited by a man who attempts to kill Rod – but for what reason?

“The Keighley Playhouse production has all the ingredients for a spectacular evening – full of surprises for everyone.”

The thriller is said to involve characters that come into conflict with each other, and the stakes are high against the backdrop of an anxious atmosphere.

Jeff added: “This is a fast-paced thriller with modern-day minutiae details that interlink with the characters and the plot with a topical and thought-provoking theme.

“The play twists and turns continually and the audience is left guessing right up to the end.”

The following production at Keighley Playhouse, on December 3 to 8, will be a stage adaptation of the popular TV sitcom ‘Allo ‘Allo.

Rene, owner of a cafe in France, tries to please both the German soldiers who eat there and the French resistance who use his back room.

He’s also trying to keep his wife happy, juggle affairs with at least two waitresses, and hide two stranded British airmen.

We’ll Always Have Paris, which will be presented on January 20 to 26, follows three women of a “certain age” in Paris.

A divorcee, a recent widow and a retired headmistress find the promise of romance, friendship, laughter and tears, in this “charming, amusing and thoughtful” play.

A rich and commanding story of love and rivalry is promised from March 11 to 16 in the “authentic and powerful” play Making Waves.

The family drama centres on the life of a lifeboatman and looks at what lifeboat crews’ families have to endure in order to keep others safe.

Classic story The Picture of Dorian Gray is staged from April 27 to May 4, and comedy Neville’s Island is on from June 10 to 15.
