A 41-year-old woman has been warned by a judge she may receive a custodial sentence for a £17,000 benefit fraud.

Zahida Ejaz, of Westburn Crescent in Keighley, pleaded guilty at Bradford Crown Court last Thursday to four offences of dishonestly pocketing money from the Department of Work and Pensions and Bradford Council.

Judge Peter Benson warned her the sentencing judge would consider all options when she appears before the court again on September 26.

Ejaz admitted failing to inform benefits agencies her partner was working, on dates between 2009 and April this year.

Her barrister, Stephen Couch, asked for an adjournment so a report could be prepared by the probation service.

Mr Couch said Ejaz had never been in trouble before. Her bail was extended until the hearing.
