Leading TV writer Sally Wainwright is penning a biopic about the Bronte family.

Wainwright, writer of several popular TV series, is working on the drama for the BBC.

She revealed the commission this month in an interview with a national newspaper.

Wainwright said: “I’m fascinated by three literary geniuses in one family, and the fact they had such robust, imaginative worlds inside their heads but outwardly they were regarded as mice.”

Halifax-born Wain-wright is no stranger to the Brontes, after drawing on the story of Wuthering Heights for her contemporary drama Sparkhouse in 2002.

She rose to prominence with her comedy-drama At Home With The Braithwaites, and went on to ITV1 crime series Scott & Bailey and BBC drama Last Tango In Halifax.
