The spirit of Elvis is being invoked to help raise cash to support a seriously ill Keighley boy.
Keighley’s Big Soup Theatre Company is staging an Elvis night at its base in Oakworth Road to boost the appeal for eight-year-old Callum Ingham.
The Parkwood Rise youngster might require costly treatment abroad for neuroblastoma – an agg-ressive form of childhood cancer.
Theatre company director, Tracie Vee, said: “We just wanted to do something for this young lad. Hopefully, we can make a dent in the amount of money he needs. Everyone is pulling together.”
The Elvis night will include an impersonator from Idle, music, a buffet and raffle. Everyone attending is encouraged to go along dressed as Elvis. The event will take place at 7pm on March 15 in Springfield Mills. Tickets are £10, and can be bought by contacting Stacey on 01535 680155.
Mrs Vee added: “Our service users really wanted to do something for Callum. We’re hoping we can maybe get more than 50 ‘Elvises’ in a room!”
Callum has undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy in a bid to beat the cancer.
But should the battle be unsuccessful – and there is an 80 per cent chance of relapse – the family will have to look abroad, to America or Germany, for life-saving treatments not available here on the NHS.
An appeal, backed by the Keighley News, has been launched to raise the half-a-million pounds needed.
The amount on little Callum’s Just Giving website has now exceeded £1,000. People can donate at justgiving.com/ CallumInghamAppeal or by texting CALL77 and the amount, between £1 and £10, to 70070.
