Young Jacob Eakin has a wheel flair for unicycling!
Since getting his unicycle as a Christmas present, the nine-year-old hasn’t looked back.
And he ‘one-wheeled’ his way to school last Wednesday as he and fellow pupils at Hothfield Junior in Silsden did their bit in the Sustrans Big Pedal competition.
During the fortnight-long contest, which runs until tomorrow, schools are awarded points for the number of children travelling to and from the site by bike or scooter.
More than 16 per cent of Hothfield pupils wheeled their way to school on the day.
“My dad has got a unicycle and that inspired Jacob to want one too,” said the youngster’s mum, Helen, of Oakland Street in Silsden.
“Jacob was riding a bike as early as he could walk, so he’s always been used to wheels, and he took to the unicycle straightaway. His cousin, William, also got one at Christmas.”
Other schools in Keighley district taking part in the Big Pedal are Crossflatts, East Morton, Parkwood, Riddlesden St Mary’s and Worth Valley primaries, as well as Eastburn Junior & Infant School.
