Campaigners are calling on Bradford Council for support to ensure Keighley remains a Fairtrade Town.
They will tonight ask the council’s Keighley Area Committee to pledge staff time to help with Fairtrade projects.
Keighley gained Fairtrade Town status last October after demonstrating it had support from local councils, businesses, community organisations and schools.
This meant Fairtrade products – which provide a fair price to growers and manufacturers in developing countries – were on sale locally.
Keighley’s Fairtrade steering group must provide evidence this October of how Fairtrade Keighley has developed since the status was granted.
The steering group is not asking Keighley Area Committee for money, but instead wants its staff to attend meetings and provide help with Fairtrade activities.
