CARING Keighley people have rallied round after burglars smashed their way into a charity shop and stole thousands of pounds.
Donations have flooded in to the Sue Ryder Manorlands premises, in Cavendish Street, Keighley, following the incident.
The raiders forced open a safe and stole about £2,000 in cash.
They also trashed the office and cost the outlet, which had to close while police examined the scene and a clean-up was launched, half-a-day’s takings.
After the Keighley News last week highlighted the break-in, generous readers came forward to offer support.
"One gentleman called in to the shop with £200 and other people have come in with donations – people have been very generous and we are extremely grateful," said assistant shop manager, Mrs Rachel Fox.
"We've also got the possibility of a firm donating an upgraded security system."
The shop opened until late last Thursday night in a bid to recoup some of the lost cash, and about £160 was raised.
Staff are now considering holding a late-night opening on a regular basis.
Takings, collection tins and money raised through events were stolen during the burglary, which occurred on the night of Friday, August 8.
Three youths – two aged 16 and the other 17, all from the Bradford area – were arrested in connection with the incident, but have since been released without charge.
