CHILDREN at a Keighley primary school have got on their bikes – inspired by the efforts of a classroom health mentor.
Nessfield pupils together cycled 130 miles in the playground to raise money for Tagtiv8 kits, a form of tag rugby for learning maths, English and spelling.
Their efforts are expected to coin-in over £1,000.
They were following the lead of their Evolve senior health mentor Brian Padden, who the previous weekend had set off from the school to complete a gruelling three-day ride around the Yorkshire Dales for Cancer Research.
He joined the youngsters for their own fundraising challenge.
"It was a massive success," he said.
"The rain was absolutely bouncing and we got completely drenched, but all the children have been asking when we can do it again!
"One child alone has collected £117, so hopefully the final total will be well into four figures."
Headteacher Nicola Thornber said: "The heavens opened but the feeling was so positive.
"It was great to see children out on their bikes, inspired by Brian's fabulous efforts."
People can still donate to Mr Padden's fund at justgiving.com/ThePeddlingPaddy.
