CONCERNS have been raised about the planned location for Silsden’s new primary school.
District councillor Andrew Mallinson believes the proposed site, above Silsden Park and Daisy Hill, is on the wrong side of town.
Cllr Mallinson, while welcoming the long-awaited announcement a school will be built, suggests a site could be found on vacant land on the other side of busy Keighley Road.
He said: “The most densely-populated part of Silsden is on the other side of town. Families living around Elliott Street will have to negotiate the main road.
“It’s not an easy walk for children. It could raise some safety concerns. The location will undoubtedly cause huge amounts of congestion at peak times.”
Cllr Mallinson, who represent Craven ward on Bradford Council, believes the school location should have been chosen as part of an overall strategy for Silsden’s infrastructure to cope with a huge expected increase in population for new developments in the town.
