IT is scandalous that Keighley is still waiting for answers over the future of its police station.

For months, the office of West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson has been trotting out the same old bland statement in response to people's real concerns.

"No decision has been taken", "consultation will be carried out", "a police base will remain" etc.

Meantime, more chunks of police provision in the town disappear.

In the latest move, helpdesk opening hours have been reduced.

Two hours less each day may not seem like a massive cut, but it is yet another erosion of provision following on from the loss of the cells and the relocation of the CID department.

And it does nothing for public confidence and reassurance.

Keighley needs a police station and a town with a population its size should have one.

If it's no longer going to be at Airedale House – and many people rued its move there in the first place – it should return to the town centre.

The idea of the civic centre building once again housing a police base seems to be gaining momentum.

And there are plenty of worse places where it could be.
