THE SPOOKY story of an Edwardian balloonist who died at Stanbury will be re-enacted in the place where it happened.
Sharon Wright’s play Friller: The Strange Story Of Miss Lily Cove will be performed at Ponden Hall on October 30 at 6.30pm.
Sharon, a former Keighley News reporter, set out to portray the life of the celebrity balloonist who plunged to her death in a field behind the hall in 1906.
Following the performance in the atmospheric 17th-century former farmhouse there will be a hearty supper where guests can share their own ghost stories around the fire.
Sharon said: “I’ve always been fascinated by the story of liberated Lily Cove and her larger-than-life manager Captain Frederick Bidmead.
“What really happened in the sky over Ponden on that horrific night more than a century ago? What secrets did brave, tragic Lily take to her Haworth grave?”
Email stay@ponden.force9.co.uk or call 01535 648608 to book tickets, which cost £15 including supper.
